Economic Development Officer

Iskatewizaagegan No. 39 Independent First Nation is seeking a highly motivated individual to fulfill the responsibilities of an Economic Development Officer.  In collaboration with the Chief and Council the EDO is responsible for establishing and overseeing all economic development opportunities for Iskatewizaagegan No. 39 Independent First Nation. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate community and economic development programs
  • Manage all aspects of First Nation sponsored ventures
  • Identify and foster community and economic development opportunities, projects and initiatives
  • Develop partnerships within the community to develop and promote opportunities
  • Assist with the development of job creation projects
  • Research private and public sector economic development funding opportunities
  • Prepare proposals for funding to support community economic development
  • Assist with work plan development and mentor staff as needed

Essential Skills and Competencies

The EDO must have proficient knowledge in following areas:

  • Knowledge of First Nation funding programs and financial assistance initiatives.
  • Ability to form appropriate partnerships and seeking venture capital and cooperative investments.
  • Financial management and analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders, business owners, executives and elected officials.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills demonstrated through the ability to facilitate, network lead, research, negotiate, analyze and resolve issues.
  • Possess a strong sense of personal integrity and uphold ethical practice.
  • Stress management and time management skills.

Education and Experience

  • A post-secondary or diploma in marketing, communications, business administration, commerce or public administration or an acceptable combination of post-secondary education and experience

(applicant must clearly demonstrate how experience meets requirement)

  • Comprehensive computer software knowledge including word processing, spreadsheet and power point presentations.
  • Knowledge of First Nation governments
  • Sound analytical and business skills
  • Knowledge of First Nation culture and knowledge of Ojibway Language would be an asset
  • Driver’s license and vehicle and ability to travel

Salary Range                      Commensurate with qualifications and experience
